Although increasingly growing cultural acceptance of diverse sexual, and romantic orientations and gender identification, harassment, discrimination, and ostracism of LGBTQ+ people continues.
Coping with discrimination, and oppression, coming out to family and friends, and finding your “true self” within the pressures of society can lead to extreme levels of depression, anxiety, and other concerns for LGBTQ+ people.
Your sexual or romantic orientation, or gender identity may not be causing you distress. If you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, or any other non-traditional sexual or gender, identity (known as LGBTQ+), and you need someone to support you, and help you make goals to alleviate stress. Contact me, Shamyra Howard, LCSW On the Green Couch, to discuss your unique situation.
